STEVE LAZARIDES
Steve Lazarides is a Bristol-born photographer, curator and gallerist whose archive provides a rare first-hand record of the formative years of contemporary street art. He first met Banksy in 1997 and, over the following eleven years, worked closely with the artist as photographer and agent, documenting street works, exhibitions, installations and moments largely unseen by the public. Many of the works Lazarides photographed were temporary by nature and have since been painted over, removed or moved into private collections. His images preserve not only the artworks themselves, but the streets, people and environments in which they originally appeared — an important visual record of a period that would fundamentally change the relationship between street art and the wider art world. That archive later became the foundation of his self-published Banksy Captured volumes, bringing together photography and first-hand accounts from his years working alongside the artist. Lazarides’ photographic editions allow collectors to engage with that history through the perspective of someone who witnessed it from unusually close range.
