Brian Donnelly, known professionally as KAWS, is an American artist whose work moves between fine art, street culture, design and popular culture. He first gained attention in New York during the 1990s through graffiti and interventions that reworked existing advertising imagery with his own distinctive characters and symbols. That visual language has since expanded across painting, sculpture, editions and monumental public works. Recurring figures such as COMPANION, together with KAWS’ signature crossed-out eyes and skull-like forms, have become internationally recognisable, allowing him to explore ideas of isolation, vulnerability, companionship and connection through imagery rooted in contemporary visual culture.
