Banksy is one of the most recognisable and influential figures in contemporary street art. Emerging from Bristol’s graffiti scene in the 1990s, he developed a distinctive stencil language that combines dark humour with sharp political and social commentary. Children, rats, police, soldiers and familiar cultural symbols recur throughout his work, often reworked to question power, conflict, consumerism and everyday life. What began as interventions on walls and bridges grew into an international practice spanning prints, paintings, installations, film and large-scale projects.
