JAMES HUNT

James Hunt is a painter, illustrator, and muralist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. His work explores themes of joy, the environment, and the messy beauty of learning—often through bold colours and a playful visual language that invites viewers to slow down and feel good for a moment. James has been making art since childhood and began exhibiting more seriously in recent years after building momentum through group shows around Auckland since 2017. His solo exhibitions, ADHD Superpowers at Eyes on Fire Gallery (2024) and Nice Art to Look At and Hopefully Make You Feel Good at Studio One Toi Tū (2022) reflect his ongoing interest in creating work that’s emotionally resonant and openly optimistic. He continues to develop his practice through mural commissions, illustration projects, and explorations of how art can bring joy into everyday spaces.
