The Warbird develops the helicopter imagery Blek le Rat first explored during the creation of his 2024 War & Peace exhibition in London. One of the earliest motifs developed for that body of work, the helicopter is transformed through Blek’s unmistakable graphic language into an image of immediate visual strength. War & Peace drew in part on Blek’s childhood in post-war France and the wartime experiences shared by his family. Rather than illustrating a single event, the series explores how images of conflict carry memory, history and emotion across generations.
In The Warbird, those ideas are distilled into a tightly composed three-colour serigraphy that connects Blek’s recent practice with the stencil language he has developed on the streets of Paris and beyond since 1981.
Released directly by Blek le Rat in May 2025 in an edition of just 55. The edition is now sold out from the artist. Professionally framed with double over-matting and anti-reflective, UV-blocking AR99 Artglass.
