Radar Rat brings one of Banksy’s recurring urban characters into the world of music. The image appears on this limited Dirty Funker Future vinyl release from 2008, pairing Banksy’s familiar rat motif with a format rooted in underground club and record culture. Auction houses including Heritage and Artcurial have catalogued examples of the release as Banksy works associated with the Radar Rat image.

Banksy’s rats have appeared throughout his practice as resourceful outsiders occupying the edges of the city. In Radar Rat, the character is equipped with headphones and electronic apparatus, surrounded by radiating signals. The motif pushes the rat beyond simple graffiti iconography into ideas of listening, transmission and surveillance — themes that sit naturally alongside Banksy’s wider interest in authority and urban life. A related Radar Rat screenprint was published by Pictures on Walls in 2004.

The record adds another layer to the image. Rather than existing only as a print or street intervention, Banksy’s visual language becomes part of a functional piece of music culture — an object designed to be handled, played and circulated. This example is the brown sleeve variant, presented as a framed collectible with the original vinyl.
