This work draws directly on Mauro Viale’s long-standing relationship with art, architecture and design. Growing up in an artistic and architectural family, Viale spent much of his childhood in his grandparents’ studio, surrounded by the ideas and visual language of early and mid-century modernism.

Those influences emerge here through stacked geometries, shifting perspectives and the balance between curved organic forms and harder architectural planes. The composition sits somewhere between architecture, sculpture and figure: individual fragments can suggest buildings, monuments, vessels or even parts of the human form without resolving into one fixed interpretation.

Viale constructs the work from linoleum blocks carved and printed entirely by hand. Each printed sheet carries subtle variations of texture and tone before being cut into separate forms, moved, rotated and layered into a new composition. This process allows chance and experimentation to remain visible within an otherwise carefully structured image.

The finished work brings together traditional printmaking and collage in a distinctly contemporary way — transforming simple printed elements into a bold, sculptural composition shaped by structure, movement and imagination.
