The original Peckham Rock, also called Wall Art, is a 2005 artwork by Banksy, in the form of a lump of concrete decorated in the style of a cave painting and depicting "a supposed prehistoric figure pushing a shopping trolley" and credited to the artist "Banksymus Maximus". Originally displayed in the British Museum's Roman Gallery without authorisation in yet another classic Banksy stunt, questioning the institutionalised nature of museums and the value of art.
The work went undiscovered for a few days before eventually getting taken down by the museum after they learnt about it through Banksy's website. The work reappeared again at the "Banksy vs Bristol Museum" exhibition in 2009, and then in 2018, the pinnacle of "Peckham Rock's" illustrious story happened when it was re-displayed at the British Museum under the title "Wall Art" with the permission of the Museum and Banksy/Pest Control as a part of the new display that examined objects challenging established narratives and official versions of events.
